Alfie
DOB: August 3, 2021
Breed: Shepard cross
Rescued from: Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation“I started by fostering him through Pawsitve Match, when I met him he was the sweatiest boy, shortly after foster him and a little convincing our cats, we knew he was a perfect fit into our home so adopting him was a easy decision. He came with missing toes on one of his paws, and two bullets in him that recently got removed a few weeks into fostering him but that does not stop him. Alfie loves everyone and wants all the love and is the biggest cuddle bug, a small lap dog in a big dogs body.”

Antonio “Tony”
DOB: September 2020
Breed: Unknown
Rescued from: Renacer Contigo“Antonio “Tony” was found on the streets of Mexico along with his siblings and mom. All 9 of them, including mom, were eventually rescued to homes in BC. As Tony’s daycare puts it, he has big emotions. His zoomies are wild, his dreams are animated, and his love is immense. He makes every day a hilarious adventure and we are so lucky to have him!”
- Emma D., Comox Valley, BC, Canada -
Astro
DOB: March 2020
Breed: Pitbull/Bulldog“Astro is a wild child, our little Tasmanian devil. He looks tough but is a big, sweet baby. He loves bananas and chasing squirrels but hates any type of water unless it’s in a bowl to drink.”

In Memory of Bam Bam
DOB: 2013-2025
Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier
Rescued from: Angel City Pitbulls via South LA Shelter“Bam Bam was an incredible breed ambassador, she loved everyone & everything. Born with a neurological issue, Bam Bam came to us with gait issues, but she handled it with grace. She was more clumsy than most dogs but it was so sweet. She had beautiful big brown eyes that drew you in, which led to her getting whatever she wanted, when she wanted. She was perfect.”

Baxter
Age: 11
Breed: Miniature American Eskimo
Rescued from: Rehomed“Baxter and Dexter (more on that little drama queen later) are 11 year old miniature American Eskimos (or cloud boys!) and we got them from separate rehoming situations.
Baxter (formally known as tutu/fluffy) was put up for adoption after their family could no longer keep him as they had bought a condo that was not pet friendly. Baxter is currently 11 years old, and is blind. But that doesn’t slow him down!! He loves to go on adventures, and sniff all the things! He loves to cuddle, play with his ball, and eat crunchy things.”
- Hillary B., Langley, BC, Canada

Bob
DOB: Jan 19, 2018
Breed: Terrier, chihuahua (supposed lab mix)
Rescued from: Save Our Scruff“Bob was named Silent Bob by Save Our Scruff (SOS) but has since turned into Bob Barker. He was rescued from Charlie’s Angels in Costa Rica and brought to Canada where he famously appeared on Breakfast Television to promote SOS. His sister, Bowie, was also brought to Canada and they’re still buds to this day (although she lives in TO). Bob is silly and vocal. When he’s hungry or playing he makes funny little noises. He’s got a big personality but loves to cuddle with his people when he’s tired. He loves hiking and is a great mountain dog! We love him to bits!”
- Kim L., Calgary, AB, Canada -
Bowie
DOB/Age: January 18, 6 y/o
Breed: Chi mix
Rescued from: Save Our Scruff“Bowie is Bob’s feisty sister! She came from Costa Rica and was found with her siblings under a pile of sticks. They were rescued by Charlie’s Angels (rescue org in Costa Rica) and brought to Canada through the help of save our scruff. She was the runt of the litter and we think that’s where her feistiness comes from! She is always hungry! She now resides in Toronto, ON with her two mommas.”
- Jaclyn B., Toronto, ON, Canada -
In Memory of Bubba
Breed: Golden Retriever mix
Rescued from: Mae Bachur Animal Shelter“Bubs was adopted from the shelter at 4 years old & we had 8 amazing years with him. I went to the shelter to see a retriever puppy and found out he was already adopted out. A volunteer walked out with Bubba to take him for a walk and I asked if I could take him and instantly fell in love with him, watching as his ears perked up excitedly at every squirrel he saw. He was an old man at heart, refusing to fetch, swim, or play with toys, but still had a youthful, fun energy about him. He was happiest on adventure walks in the forest, or lounging with us on the couch. He was there for our first home, marriage, and birth of our daughters. Truly one of the best. 💛”
- Colleen K., Whitehorse, YK, Canada -
Butters
Age: approximately 9 years old
Breed: Cattle dog mix
Rescued from: Niagara Dog Rescue“Our dog Toby had passed. i was looking in pet finder, after 67 pages I was going to stop scrolling when i saw “Sean”. I showed it to my husband and he said we can call him Butters. My husband loves south park.
Butters was found in an abandoned house in Kentucky, made bis way through rescue teams to Ontario. We drove 8 hours to meet him. I cant say it was love at first sight. Butters was a lot of work but he was worth it. There were many tough times in the start! Today his is the best dog you could hope for.”

Cannoli
DOB: July 18, 2021
Breed: Hound/ Ridgeback/ Pitbull mix
Rescued from: The Bond Between (Minnesota)“Rescue is so important to me. After volunteering at a local shelter for a college class credit, I continued volunteering, sometimes 20+ hours a week. I've fostered over 40 dogs and cats and have adopted 3 dogs! I adopted Cannoli shortly after my first rescue pup passed away unexpectedly at 1 year old. She has the absolute best personality! Cannoli is the biggest scaredy baby- she is scared of car rides, my parents' cat, and the dishwasher. When my other pup is being wild, Cannoli and I share a look of "is he really doing that?" She is such a big part of my life, and I couldn't imagine life without her!”
- Sarah S., St. Paul, Minnesota, USA

Charlie
DOB: June 7, 2021
Breed: Mixed: golden and lab
Rescued from: Lucky Pup Rescue of Greenville SC“Charlie was part of a large scale rescue Lucky Pup Rescue Group did in Georgia, USA. A hoarder had cages and cages of dogs in a home, surrounded my trash as far as you could see. Lucky Pup was able to rescue 13 of the dogs and Charlie & her brother were the smallest. She had some major fear issues in the beginning but adjusted with lots of love and training. She is full of youngest child attitude. She talks back, she is the most expressive, loves to play, loves tug of war, brings all her stuffed animals to my bed every night. She is my constant shadow and biggest protector. And she adores her sister pup Stella.”
- Elizabeth M., Greenville, SC, USA -
Circe
DOB: October 7, 2021 (3 Years)
Breed: Border Collie (Smooth Coat)
Rescued from: Central Alberta Humane Society (Red Deer, AB)“Circe is our first and only dog. We’ve had her for about a year and a half and she is truly the love of our lives. She was surrendered to the Central Humane Society in the middle of the night with no information whatsoever. We didn’t know her name or age or where she came from, but as soon as we saw her we knew she belonged with us. She was so goofy, smart and trusting and immediately formed an incredibly strong bond with both of us, which we are so grateful for. Circe brings us endless joy (and frisbees and balls and toys and sticks) and I can’t believe how lucky we are to be her parents!”
- Chantal + Ian, Calgary, AB, Canada -
Clementine aka Tiny
DOB/Age: 2.5-3ish. Decided her birthday was April 23, 2022 because she seems like a taurus
Breed: English bulldog“She was abandoned after someone failed to breed her. A friend of a friend posted her to insta and i said i would “go and meet her” and promised not to make any rash decisions. I spent approx 3 minutes with her and knew she was my soul mate. She was so timid and quiet and frail. But she opened up so quick. She LOVES to be in close physical contact always leaning or sleeping on me (or whoever ahes with). She has a never ending appetitie. Almost never barks. Tiny is my little passenger princess and loves riding shotgun with her head out the window. She is the sweetest most gentle giant and i am forever lucky we found each other.”
- Ashley R., Toronto, ON, Canada -
Codi
DOB/Age: September 30th (gotcha-day), 10 years (approx.)
Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever
Rescued from: GTA Lab Rescue“Codi came to our family in 2017 missing most of his fur due to a combination of severe allergies and neglect, but after a quick fix to his diet and our family spoiling him completely, he quickly came into his own and enjoys a life full of hikes, adventures and couch-cuddles, not to mention occasionally wintering in Florida!”
- Kyle D., Grimsby, ON, Canada -
Cooper
DOB/Age: 11 (gotcha date Nov 5/2014 - she was about 1 when we got her)
Breed: She’s mixed - terrier and poodle cross
Rescued from: CAARE Rescue (now known as Pawsitive Animal Rescue)“She was a foster fail. We knew nothing about her aside from that she had kennel cough and they needed her out of there asap! She’s so sweet, very stoic and our best little friend. I work from home and she is my only friend during the day time.”
- Shaina M., Vancouver, BC, Canada
-
Daisy
DOB/Age: Aug 29, 2020, 4 years old
Breed: Lab cross
Rescued from: Saskatoon Dog Rescue“Daisy was found on the side of the highway north of Saskatoon and brought to the rescue I was volunteering at. She was supposed to be a foster but I instantly fell in love with her and knew I had to keep her. She has a huge personality and brings so much joy and laughter to my life. One of her quirks is she nibbles on you to show affection.”
- Kelsey D., Calgary, AB, Canada -
Daisy
DOB/Age: April 20 - 5 years old approx
Breed: Mixed breed bully
Rescued from: Pawsitive Match“Up until recently, I lived alone. During COVID, I decided that I wanted to help make a difference in a pup's life and foster while we were in lockdown. I applied to foster a dog named Pirelli who, from the moment she entered my home, I knew she would never be leaving. Within a few short weeks, I signed her adoption papers and Daisy (her adoptive name) became my new best friend. She's been the perfect roommate, and the best friend a girl could ask for. She's definitely a creature of comfort and will seek out the comfiest couch or bed. When we go camping, there is not a chance in hell that you can find her lying on the ground by the campfire. Daisy will force me out of my own camping chair to ensure that she is comfortable :p. She's my loyal little shadow and I can't imagine life without her.”

Dexter
Age: 11
Breed: Miniature American Eskimo
Rescued from: Rehomed“Baxter (previous submission) and Dexter are 11 year old miniature American Eskimos (or cloud boys!) and we got them from separate rehoming situations.
Dexter is an absolute ✨DIVA💅✨ and does not care what you think. Dexter came to us when he was 5, (at this point we learned that Baxter (who happen to also be 5) was losing his sight and we decided we wanted to get him a buddy). We were looking for another rescue or rehoming situation, not necessarily another miniature American Eskimo. When a Facebook American Eskimo community member reached out to us and said “hey you guys are familiar with the breed, and his name is Dexter. Baxter, Dexter. Its fate”. My husband and I said SAY LESS and started the process to bring Dexter home. Dexter is full of sass (it’s that bit of husky in him!) he loves to sing us the song of his people. The complete opposite of our sweet quiet boy Baxter. But I couldn’t picture my life without him now. He loves to wake me up in the morning by smashing his head into my head as hard as he can. Baxter and Dexter bonded immediately. He is Baxter’s best friend and is always looking out for him.”
- Hillary B., Langley, BC, Canada -
Dixie
DOB/Age: Dec 24/2014 turning 11
Breed: Husky mixed with Komondor
Rescued from: AARCS“I got called to be a foster home on Dec 24,2014. I met the cutest, skinny and terrified little pup who was just rescued from a hoarder who had over 200 dogs. I fell in love quickly as I earned her trust, and officially adopted her 364 days later- Dec 23 of 2015. Dixie is the sweetest, sassiest and most loving dog in the world. She is so loyal and committed to us. She is a chatty girl, and always tells us off when we get home for leaving her. Her favourite thing in the world is holding your hand or foot with her paw. She reaches for you as soon as you sit down near her. It makes us both feel better!”
- Emma W., Calgary, AB, Canada -
Dottie
DOB/Age: 11/4/2015, just turned 9
Breed: Australian Cattle dog mixed with at least 4 other breeds (supermutt)
Rescued from: Medically Orphaned Pets (MOPS) in New Mexico“Dottie is a 9-year-old Australian Cattle dog mix who was rescued at 14 weeks old in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was an occupational therapy doctorate resident at the time, working at a clinic that specializes in animal assisted therapy and assistance dog training. I was looking to adopt a dog to train to become a therapy dog and a client's family happened to hear of a group of puppies that were just rescued and needed homes. Dottie has been by my side ever since, I call her a Velcro dog. She was a little shy at first and would sit between my feet when she was unsure. She is very smart and could learn new tricks in just one day. She has taught me so much and touched the lives of so many people. Dottie loves playing fetch, hiking, and doing agility. She is very talkative and makes funny Chewbacca noises when she is hungry, wants to play ball, or go outside.”
- Karen N., Los Angeles, CA, USA

Dutchy
DOB/Age: 1/28/2022
Breed: Pit Bull
Rescued from: Brooklyn ACC, via Second Chance Rescue“Dutchy is a combo of dog, cat, and human. She’s a sweet ball of energy who stole my heart. I lost my soul dog, Kona, in February and for her birthday in June, I wanted to take a dog out of the shelter that day. As fate would have it, the dog they gave me was Dutchy. I fell in love. I was dog sitting at the time and knew I wasn’t ready for my next dog, but there was something special about Dutchy. 3 days later, Dutchy was set to be euthanized and I was heartbroken, though I knew it’s the reality of the animal homelessness crisis we’re in today.
As luck would have it, Second Chance Rescue pulled Dutchy at the 11th hour. Of all the rescues that pull dogs from the NYC shelters, SCR happens to be the one I volunteer at regularly. I was able to walk Dutchy and stay in her life. Fast forward to when my dog sitting obligations were up in September, I was able to foster her, which quickly turned into adoption.
She has helped my heart heal and I am so thankful for her goofy antics like sleeping on top of her crate (snoopy?!), prancing around with misc items, sitting on everyones lap, or pawing at me until I’m ready to snuggle. After two previous homes and 7 months in shelters, I’m so happy she’s found her forever home here.”
- Kayla B., Queens, NY, USA -
Dwayne
Age: 13-14
Breed: Dachshund Mix
Rescued from: Toronto Animal Services
“I adopted Dwayne in 2014 and the last 10+ years with him have been some of best of my life. There were a few fortunate coincidences ahead of him coming home with me, and I just know he was meant to be my dog.
His age and breed are a bit of a mystery: the best guess is 13-14 years old, and some mix of Dachshund, Beagle, Jack Russell, and Bassett Hound.
Dwayne has such a hilarious demeanor & personality- the perfect combination of affectionate, cuddly, and sassy. I’m very fortunate that he's still so energetic and playful for a senior boy.
He’s a local celebrity in my neighbourhood, and has made more dog (and human) friends than I can count.
Dwayne is the ultimate ham, and the greatest companion I could ask for.”

Ellie
DOB/Age: July 15, 2022
Breed: Poodle Husky Mix
Rescued from: Etobicoke Humane Society“Ellie was found on the streets in Hamilton before being transferred to the Etobicoke shelter. From the bits I've heard she was not in the best shape when she was found. Our previous dog had passed away a few years prior and it felt time to add a dog to my then boyfriend and my home. When we first met Ellie she was so shy and timid. And it was such an honour to see her true colours come out over the first months after her adoption. Not enough words to describe Ellie she is loving, fisty, sassy, opinionated, so curious and tries her best. It's been so wonderful seeing her explore the world and learning all new things. She loves squirrels, sticks and all the neighbourhood dogs who are now some of her best friends. Ellie brings so much light and love into everything she does along with some mischief. She has such a unique look and a unique personality. So thankful and privileged to be able to say we are Ellie's owners.”

Faris
DOB/Age: 09/10/2020 - 4 years
Breed: Baladi Mix from Egypt
Rescued from: Fetch + Releash Dog Rescue - currently adoptable - looking for his forever family for 2 years now“Faris is a current adoptable dog through Fetch + Releash Dog Rescue, he's been in foster care for almost 3 years looking for his forever family. Faris came to us all the way from the streets of Egypt back on September 25, 2022 as one of our last dogs we rescued before the CFIA ban was put in place on September 28th, 2022. His rescuers found him in rough shape on the side of a busy road, he was skin and bones with a severe injury to one of his back legs that was badly infected. Despite the hardship he faced he is now thriving and full of love, ready to find his forever home! Faris’ fosters describe him as a big sweetheart, who enjoys cuddles, attention and treats. His typical day involves playing with his foster sister, soaking up the sun, going for walks, solving puzzles and trying to hold his foster’s hands while he gets pets.”
- Faris is currently up for adoption in Toronto, ON, Canada -
Frankie
DOB/Age: February 6, 2018. Age 6 (almost 7)
Breed: Apparently has some American Eskimo, Bernese, etc. but who knows! (She was found with no mom or siblings so I used DNA my dog.)
Rescued from: AARCS“Frankie was found alone on a northern reserve at about three weeks old in the middle of winter. She was scooped up by Northern Alberta Rescue and sent down to AARCS in YYC as a little orphan. She’s got the sweetest little personality and is so funny. Some of her funny quirks include hopping like an actual deer through fields of long grass. She always draws a crowd and it makes everyone smile. She’s just a little character and bundle of light to anyone she meets.”

Fudge
DOB/Age: May 2019
Breed: Terrier cross
Rescued from: Pawsitive Match“Fudge arrived from Bakersfield, California and arrived with 2 other(Pepsi and Oreo)small dogs . I was volunteering at Pawsitive Match and he had kennel cough and did not have a dog at home so every time I volunteered I spent my time with him. He was very timid but has come out of his shell. He loves to learn. We had to teach him how to bark and is absolutely a snuggle muffin.”

Gigi
DOB/Age: Oct 8 2018, 6 years old
Breed: Pit bull
Rescued from: Louisville Metro Animal Services“This is Gigi. She was found in January 2020 living in a dumpster eating anything she could find to survive including plastic. She only weighed 22 pounds. My mom’s co worker was fostering her and after losing my childhood dog the previous year I knew we had to get her. We adopted her February 29th 2020. Today she is a healthy beautiful girl that is full of sass and personality. She loves to sit out in the sun with her crooked butt as we call it (picture included), she has learned to swim and absolutely loves it. Happy to give this girl the best life she deserves ❤️”
- Madison G., Louisville, KY, USA -
Gizmo
DOB/Age: April 2015
Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback
Rescued from: AARCS“Gizmo hears imaginary things outside and so he is very vocal inside. Despite his protective tendences, he might just be the worst guard dog. He loves everyone he meets and, with big licks, needs to make sure that they are aware of that. His favourite place is being within 1 metre of all members of the pack, all the time. Gizmo was born in a shelter and then adopted as a puppy by a young family. Maybe they got hit with his wagging tail too many times, so after 5 years, he was surrendered. Luckily, only a few short months in foster care were needed until we met and took him into our home.”
- Nicole D., Edmonton, AB, Canada -
Glen
DOB/Age: February 8/2018
Breed: Formosan Mountain Dog
Rescued from: Embrace a Discarded Animal Society“We welcomed Glen into our family June of 2018. Our house was feeling empty after losing our previous dog, so we decided it was time to welcome a new dog. Embrace had some dogs coming over from Taiwan so we decided to go and see if there was one that was right for us. That day we weren’t expecting to bring a dog home but lo and behold we came home with Glen. Glen hates the rain and will only go outside if we make him. He will jump over any puddles that he sees. He loves wearing his rain jacket every time it rains. He loves the sun and most the time you can find him laying in the sun.”
- Britt H., North Vancouver, BC, Canada -

In Memory of Henry
DOB/Age: 15
Breed: Mutt
Rescued from: Vintage Pet Rescue“I brought henry into my life on 4/15/2022 as a hospice foster and I was blessed to have him in my life 2 years 6 months and 8 days. I hope henry is chosen to show everyone old dogs can still get a lot of love and to bring attention to his amazing rescue Vintage Pet Rescue.
Henry was found wandering the streets down south on 3/4/2022 and due to his medical issues the rescue connected with Vintage Pet Rescue who specializes in senior and special needs dogs up here in Rhode Island. When being brought up north the transport didn’t think he would even survive the trip but he did. In April 2022 Vintage Pet Rescue posted a plea looking for hospice fosters for 3 dogs, Henry (had no interest) and 2 others who had a lot of interest. While I knew I wanted a mature dog I was not sure about taking on a hospice dog due to the heartache of losing it quickly; however, after meeting Henry I fell in love and had to have him in my life.
Why was Henry hospice you may ask well he was a hot mess of a 12-14 year old dog. Henry had Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS) aka severe dry eye, a mass on his throat which was a backed up saliva gland, hind end weakness, 2-3grade heart murmur, dental disease, start of dog dementia, anxiety and general old dog lumps and bumps. Despite all this he was the sweetest dog with the cutest wobbly tail wag, mohawk and he was determined to stick with his house training which he did until the end years later. My only goal was to give him the best last few months of his life, I got him on anti-anxiety meds and mediated eye drops, both of which did wonders for him. I also took him on walks every day, we would walk until he fell over then I would carry him home as I figured being outside was his favorite thing so might as well let him be outside. Over the first few months instead of declining Henry improved dramatically! His anxiety was under control, his eyes were less itchy and painful, and the biggest difference was our walks strengthened his hind end and he went from falling over every few steps to being unable to walk my whole neighborhood without assistance! By 6 months Henry learned to run which brought tears to my eye the first time as I never would have dreamed that possible, but he learned when I would leave the house I would hide his favorite dental chew and he would scamper around looking for it and have post bath zoomies.
Henry was the definition of an old soul, he was gentle and sweet and even the local wild bunnies and deer found interest in him and would move towards him not away. He eventually even learned to move the curtains to look out the patio door and learned he could seek me out and get bully rubs which he did not understand when I first brought him home.”

Indy
DOB/Age: April 30, 2022. Age 2
Breed: Shepherd Mix/Black Mouth Curr
Rescued from: 4 Lucky Paws“We had been searching and applying to many rescues with no luck. When I stumbled upon Indy who was being fostered by a family we knew. It love at first sight although we hadn't planned on getting a puppy. I just knew she was the one.
Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with kidney disease as a puppy. We’ve had to work on getting her the right treatment, but we’ve got everything we need to keep her happy and healthy! Despite everything Indy continues to be an easy-going and super happy pup that we are so blessed to call our own.”

In Memory of Jedi
DOB/Age: October 2016, 8 years old
Breed: Mixed breed
Rescued from: Anti Animal Trafficking“This is Jedi, he was the best boy! He was rescued from the streets of South Africa and survived Parvo as a puppy. He had ears that were 3 sizes too large for his face and came together over his head (in a rabbit-like point) framed in the fluffiest blonde mane, so that he permanently looked like he had on a hat or hallow. His body was 2 sizes too long for his legs and he had a large spotted tongue. Despite his odd proportions, anyone would tell you he was the best looking & smartest dog in town; and if I could have cloned him I would have! He was that special to me. Jedi was the star of our wedding and every event, coffee date and beach walk that he graced with his presence. He passed away in November 2024 and the world will always be sadder without him in it.”

Jessie
DOB/Age: May 30 2010
Breed: Husky, Corgie, Golden Retriever mix
Rescued from: Winnipeg Humane Society“Jessie was found all alone as a 4 week old puppy in Berrens River, Manitoba. Most likely her mom had been shot in a cull that had recently happened in the area. A Hydro worker picked her up and brought her into the Winnipeg Humane Society where I worked. Because of where she came from, Jessie was placed into quarantine for 4 weeks because it was suspected she had Parvo. I walked by the room she was in a few times a week and had started stopping to stare at her and she at me. One of my co-workers wrote my name on her file "Michelle's Dog!" I didn't know but when she was ready to come out of quarantine someone brought her to me and declared she was ready to go home. I hadn't been planning to adopt a dog at that time but once I had her in my arms there was no way she wasn't coming with me.”

Jughead
DOB/Age: March 21st 2012
Breed: Lab/beagle mix
Rescued from: Sirius K9 rescue“"Who rescued who" is my favourite quote when I think about Jughead. According to his papers, he went into a shelter in South Carolina when he was 3 months old. At about 3, he got heartworms and the Sirius k9 rescue took the opportunity to save him and bring him to Canada. I had almost given up on life in my early twenties but decided I needed to live out my dream of having a dog. He saved me life. I contacted the rescue initially for another dog and she told me that "Mikey" would be a better fit. When I met him I was immediately in love. He didn't know his name so I changed it to Jughead, fitting as he loves his food. He is such a silly goof, jumping up on the very top of the couch, huffing at us when he doesn't get his way, being a 45lb lapdog, and all the zoomies. He is simply the best, I couldn't have asked for a better dog. With age he has become even more stubborn and vocal. He doesn't bark, but he huffs at us to make sure we know he means buisness. He always wants to be around us and is a great cuddlebug. I love him with all my heart.”

Junior
DOB/Age: Feb 16, 2007 7.5years
Breed: Pomeranian
Rescued from: Rehomed“Junior was with a friends family and they were going to put him down due to food aggression. Our friend knew we were wanting a Pomeranian but hadn’t found the perfect match yet. She called us and we met him the next day. Well this pup is the perfect match. He doesn’t have food aggression, he was treated very poorly and was only out of his kennel to eat. He is the most fun loving, goofiest dog. He loves his snuggles too. He is my emotional support dog without the training.”
- Marcy D., Spruce Grove, AB, Canada -
Kayley
DOB/Age: Guesstimate is July 2011 (around 13.5 years old)
Breed: Border Collie x Lab
Rescued from: Taber Animal Services“I met Kayley at an adopt-a-thon hosted by the dog daycare I worked at. She had a litter of puppies who all had multiple applications that day, and no one was interested in her. She did a "sit pretty" and looked at me with her big beautiful eyes and I was hooked. She has been my best friend and closest confidant ever since. Her only "flaw" (for lack of a better word) is that she is super sensitive and can be nervous - anyone who raises their voice or gets angry, or carries a broom or a golf club (etc) makes her want to hide. Kayley LOVES to eat, and even now as an old lady she does spins and prances around like a puppy around meal time, or when the treat bag comes out! She is super smart, and knows tons of tricks, she is an awesome adventure buddy, loves a good slow sniffy walk, or to cuddle on the couch. I don't have words to describe how much she means to me.”

Keera
DOB/Age: She believe she is roughly 9 years old
Breed: Mutt - Australian shepherd and black lab mix
Rescued from: Advocates for Northern Animals“Though Keera has a tough time growing up, she’s a silly girl, who loves to play fetch, loves squeaky toys, and most of all, loves her nose being scratched. Though Keera is an older girl, she plays like the pup that she couldn’t be in her younger years. She loves her veggies, and making blow dried after being washed. We love her for her humour, and adorable yoda ears that flap while she runs. Though we saved her, she saved us and reminds us everyday of the importance of providing for those in need.”

Kova
DOB/Age: 8 years
Breed: Multigrain (Collie burner rescue)
Rescued from: Pawsitive Match“We adopted Kova during our progression as a couple. As our love grew, so did Kova's personality. As a rescue from the NWT, she deeply fell I love with us and visa versa. Once we spent the time to build her confidence, she is now the best and maybe the only dog we will ever own. She is kind, smart and has love to give.”

Lady Bird
DOB/Age: May 13 2015? We think she’s nine
Breed: American Bulldog/Lab Mix
Rescued from: Niagara Dog Rescue“Lady Bird was surrendered to a shelter in Georgia by a backyard breeder. The rescue said they pulled her from the shelter because she was the sweetest dog and she wouldn’t be aggressive towards our two other dogs who were small bully breeds. She is literally the most gentle, loving, affectionate dog. Everyone who meets her can’t get over how sweet she is. She loves to give hugs and bury her face into my chest for comfort. She sits all 70lbs of herself on top of me if there is thunder or fireworks, and she makes most adorable howling sounds in her sleep (even though she’s very demure when she’s awake). We get stopped every time we walk her by people who say she looks just like the dog from Little Rascals because she has a patch on one eye. She was bread several times before she was brought to us and was skin and bones when we got her. She’s now such a happy, loving, and goofy girl. I’m a huge fan of your puzzles and would be honoured to have my little lady on a puzzle.”

Leo
DOB/Age: June 4 2023
Breed: Best guess Aussie labradoodle
Rescued from: Raincoast Dog Rescue“Leo came to us at 2 weeks old with his 6 siblings and mama Magnolia as a foster. Magnolia's family was going through a difficult time and had surrendered her to Raincoast to give her a safe home to raise her puppies. After spending the summer caring for mama and the puppies, I fell in love with Leo (born Mango). He would escape the puppy room to go upstairs and play with our dog Coal, sneaking his way into our life and hearts. We decided to adopt him. My sister and our close friends also adopted puppies from the litter and now they get to have playdates for life. Leo loves his adopted brother Coal and rescue cat Koby as well as his human family. Leo dreams of herding sheep, is super smart and fast. He has two different coloured eyes(one blue and one half brown/half blue) and the most expressive ears.”

Loca
DOB/Age: Feb 22 2016
Breed: Nope (I call her a Mexican Special)
Rescued from: Misty Creek“Loca was originally from the streets of Mexico and was at the rescue for a year before I met her. Although that is sad I do feel like she was waiting for me and it led to a happy ending. The first time I met her she put her paw on my knee and that was it. She is the sweetest girl who thinks everyone should be her friend. Her tail never stops and her signature spin moves are legendary. Not a big barker but very chatty she will certainly let you know how she’s feeling.”

Lola
DOB/Age: 8
Breed: American Bulldog/Pitbull
Rescued from: BARCS Rescue Calgary“We first saw Lola the house hippo on the BARCS rescue page while stilling living overseas in Australia and felt an instant connection. We were lucky enough to find out she was still looking for her forever home once we came back to Calgary and she fit into our lives and home perfectly. She came from a not so great situation in California where her "owners" abused her, badly cropper her ears, broke her teeth and used her as a bait and breeding dog. She spent the majority of her life in a cage but now loves her heated blanket, pjs and gets all the cuddles in the world. Despite a rough life she is the sweetest and most gentle girl. She has been an incredible addition to our family and has shown us that life can change for the better. She is also an amazing advocate for her breed and has helped so many people reframe their minds and even fears when it comes to pitbulls. We love everything about her and hope she can live out her remaining years in the peace and comfort she deserves. She also doesn't have many teeth left which means she bleps out her little tongue all day long! Thank you for considering our sweet little Blepperoni Pizza!”

In Memory of Lucy
DOB/Age: 7/27/2005-6/23/2020
Breed: Beagle
Rescued from: Tall Tails Beagle Rescue, Maine, USA“Growing up I had always wanted a beagle. Shortly after moving to Maine in 2006 I found a beagle rescue and immediately fell in love with Lucy. She was picked up as a stray in Ohio and shipped to Maine. Ironically she did not act like a beagle. Quite shy, never barked (but loved to howl), & not food motivated. She loved to play with other dogs & people. She was a model for a dog company in their catalogs. I loved all of our adventures to the parks, beaches, & lighthouses in all seasons in Maine. She was one of a kind. Lucy taught me unconditional love & kindness, with lots of cuddles & zoomies! I have her paw tattooed on my arm.”

Lulu
DOB/Age: November 29th
Breed: Chihuahua beagle mix
Rescued from:“Lulu was born into a rescue center and adopted out to a family. Unfortunately she ended back up at a kill shelter and the rescue center got a call. I needed up fostering her and fell so in love we had to adopt! She is the sweetest angel baby ever! We now have a baby boy that she is in love with! She’s the best baby ever! Her story can be found on Beverly Hills Housewives! Formerly known as Lucy Lucy Apple juice.”

Maddie
DOB/Age: Approx 11yrs
Breed: Bearded Collie X

Maverick
DOB/Age: June 2023
Breed: Mixed
Rescued from: Pause4Change“Maverick was found near a reserve along with his littermates. He was a "foster fail" in other words, I was only going to help him find a home but then he is such a good dog, I couldn't resist and adopted him. He is known as Mr. Party Pants at the neighbourhood off leash because he has to greet everyone and can't resist trying to get other dogs to play. He is cuddly and has the brightest whitest teeth I've ever seen. He's just a goofball and I love him. Thanks for doing this by the way. I think it's super awesome!”

Mika
DOB/Age: September (not too sure the day!) 2016 (approx!)
Breed: Husky
Rescued from: Muskoka Animal Rescue“We found Mika through the Muskoka Animal Rescue in September 2020! My husband and I were looking for a rescue dog and we just so happened to see an advertisement for her on Facebook. That same weekend we drove up to Muskoka to meet Mika (the love of our lives!). We were originally told that Mika was in good shape and that she was a surrender from a man in the area. When we met Mika with the animal rescue we all realized that she was in pretty rough shape. She was incredibly overweight and had a difficult time jumping up on anything and going up stairs. The home she was in left her outside 24/7 all year round which was an extremely isolating life for her. Mika was not socialized with a lot of people or other animals. We knew that we had some work to do when we brought Mika home to get her back in good health and to get her socialized. She has been worth every difficult moment at the beginning! It didn't take long for Mika to get back to an appropriate weight and we soon came to see that she LOVED people (we are still working on little dogs - but you can't love everyone!). Mika has brought so much joy to our lives, as well as the lives of so many other people. We are forever grateful that we found her and that she found us!”

Millie
DOB/Age: June 24, 2019
Breed: St Bernard x Great Dane
Rescued from: Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation“Getting a dog was one of the first items on our list when we bought our new home in 2020. In the era of Covid adoptions, the search for a dog to rescue was a bit challenging, since the wait lists were so long. We completed a preliminary interview with Pawsitive Match, and at the end of the call, they said - we have a dog on our radar who might be a great fit. If her size doesn’t scare you (she was 115 lbs at 11 months old!) we can arrange a meet and greet. We met Millie in a park with her foster dad, and 2 days later she was in her forever home. She is such a happy, friendly girl, with so many doggy and people friends. She’s the queen of the park in our neighbourhood. She loves snoozing, car rides, walks, liver treats, and the Buffalo Bills.”

In Memory of Monte
DOB/Age: n/a
Breed: Mastiff
Rescued from: Rehomed“Monte was a family dog all his life. The gentlest of giants. His first family, sadly, went through a divorce and he needed to be rehomed. He went back to the original breeder who, at the time, lived in a small apartment and couldn’t keep our great big boy. Luckily a mutual friend knew that I had just lost another dog and brought him right to me. Despite all of the upheaval, he made himself at home immediately and was the ultimate family dog. He was protective of his family but his biggest weapon was the drool he hung on us like shoestrings. He loved kittens and puppies and helped us to raise our little Jack Russell into a fine young gentleman. Monte was my soul-dog and I miss his stable presence every day.”

In Memory of Mowgli
DOB: 2005-2020
Breed: Yorkie/Poodle/Terrier Mix
Rescued from: OSPCA in Newmarket, ON, Canada“Mowgli was found wandering on a sideroad, he was skinny and completely matted like he hadn’t had a haircut in years. He moved from Canada to LA in 2016 and spent the years of his life sunbathing, hiking & playing with his siblings. He was only about 12 lbs but had the attitude and personality of a 75lb dog. Always the smallest dog in the pack, but without a doubt the toughest.”

Mr. Frodo Baggins
DOB/Age: Sept 17, we guess around 8 years
Breed: Great Pyrenees
Rescued from: Bella Vista Animal Shelter“So we don’t know his backstory but he was found in the wild with two full Pyrenees pups (that’s why his name at the shelter became Padre). The pups being so small and adorable got adopted immediately but since he was big he had not been adopted for 2-3 weeks. He was so big that he didn’t fit properly in the indoor kennels and was one of two dogs who was outside in the Arkansas heat. We had not planned to get a giant breed but we happened to walk by him and he was the only dog who didn’t bark and we almost missed him. We decided to walk the poor guy since it was so hot outside and every time we’d pause, he would stop lean over on our thigh and we knew this is it. I was supposed to buy a car that week (a sedan) but well he didn’t fit in a sedan so I ended up getting an suv so that he is comfortable. Since then we’ve traveled across 20+ states, moved countries and now live in Canada. He’s scared of thunder, loud noises and loves to counter surf, open cabinets and doors to food. He ate a kg of ghee once. That’s a long story for another time. :)”

Nala
Age: 13
Breed: American Pitbull Terrier
Rescued from: San Bernardino Shelter“Nala is a gentle giant who I think has lived many lives. Her energy is wise, calm & kind. She has beautiful green eyes and is an old soul. In Memory of Nan
DOB/Age: July 13th, 2012 (??)
Breed: Not sure - but we suspected she was a husky shepherd mix (she was a northern dog from a First Nations community)
Rescued from: Thunder Bay & District Humane Society“Nan was a magical force that came into my life in a weird and wonderful way. I was going through some major life changes and had spent the summer solo road tripping to BC and on my way home at the end of the summer, I stopped to grab a coffee and get gas in Thunder Bay. The Humane Society was down the street so I stopped in. I was actually interested in her sister - but when I visited the litter, Nan (formally Scout) sat staring at me. She followed me everywhere and before I knew it, she was my copilot in my 4Runner heading back to Toronto. We had 7 magical years together - she was my soul dog who showed up when I needed her most. She cast on spell on those she met and made friends everywhere we went. She was so smart and full of soul - human like in her personality.”

In Memory of Parker
DOB/Age: Aug 15, she was approx 10
Breed: Mixed
Rescued from: Grande Prairie SPCA“She was sitting alone in the SPCA yard, her back turned to all the other puppies and people—as if she wanted nothing to do with the noise or chaos. In that moment, I knew she was the one for me: quiet, stoic, and full of soul.
Her story was heartbreaking. Her mother had been brought in after being shot. Despite her injuries, she was pregnant. The shelter saved her, and she gave birth to eight puppies. Parker was the last to be adopted—she was waiting for me.
From that day on, wherever I went, she went. She was incredibly smart, a little quirky, and full of character. I only got ten years with her, but they were the best ten years.”

In Memory of Picasso (aka Goob, Old Boy, Eeyore)
DOB/Age: October 31, 2013 – October 2, 2024
Breed: Shepherd Hound and so much more
Rescued from: ARCCS“Picasso was at a dog rescue event, the saddest looking dog I had ever seen with his big, Eeyore eyes and floppy ears. I sat down with him, and he leaned into me. In that moment, I knew he was my boy. We brought him home on Halloween.
He had some adjustments to make, but our quiet home was the perfect place for him. Picasso was the best at keeping me safe on walks, always vigilant and alert. He became a big brother, protecting our daughter the same way he did us. He was just happy to be with us—especially when we were outside, adventuring and sniffing out all the new things.
At home, you would never know we had a dog. Picasso was silent, so gentle when taking treats, and content to just be with his family. He was the best dog we could have asked for. After the hard life he had before us, we are forever grateful to AARCS for rescuing him.
We miss you, Bud.”

Piper
DOB/Age: October 12, 2020
Breed: Embark says: Chihuahua 23.2% Poodle (Small) 16.5% Cocker Spaniel 15.8% Miniature Pinscher 11% Shih Tzu 9.4% Supermutt 9.2% Golden Retriever 9% German Shepherd Dog 5.9%
Rescued from: Lost Boys Hope Rescue“Piper is originally from Northern Manitoba. She was found at roughly 6 weeks old all by herself in the cold :( She was brought to Barrie by Lost Boys where she lived with her foster over the Christmas holidays. I had been watching for a dog for awhile after moving back to Ontario from Calgary and had even put in a few applications but it was Covid era so EVERYONE was adopting dogs. I had all but given up hope when on December 27th, we sat down to have breakfast and got a YouTube notification that Lost Boys had posted a video of a new dog up for adoption. They say that when you know you know, and the second I watched her video, I knew she was meant to be mine! She was this little mange covered mess who immediately stole my heart. I literally ran for my computer to fill out the application and 3 days later was called for a virtual house visit. We found out the next day at 2pm that we would be making the drive to go pick her up on January 2nd. I was the crazy lady crying in Petsmart on New Year’s Eve trying to get supplies before they closed! lol She was supposed to be a 40-50 pound shepherd mix, boy were they wrong! But I wouldn’t change one thing about her! She is so silly and derpy and LOVES everyone! Adopt don’t shop! They truly are the best dogs ever!”

In Memory of Piper
DOB/Age: April 2 2012 (we think)
Breed: Beagle Mix
Rescued from: Save our scruff“We found Piper online when we were looking to add to our young family. We went to meet her at her foster home and fell in love. She was formerly a prison therapy dog from Kentucky, and when we adopted her we were binge watching Orange is the new black, so the name Piper felt like an obvious fit. She was a wonderful member of the family for 9 years and passed away this summer with all the love our family could give her.”

Piper Snoop
DOB/Age: 5ish
Breed: Terrier Mix
Rescued from: FurEver Homes Rescue“My old boss, who fostered dogs, brought her into work after arriving from Los Cabos, Mexico, the day after she arrived in Canada and she wouldn't leave my side at my desk. She loves belly rubs and has the sweetest, kindest, chilled out (super lazy) personality.”

Poochie
DOB/Age: Approximately 8
Breed: n/a
Rescued from: Northern Manitoba Paws in Need“Poochie was abandoned at a gas station on highway 6, and was brought to the rescue in Thompson Manitoba. My sister was looking to rescue a pup and went into the shop, she looked at many dogs but when they said ‘oh we have another one in the back, do you want to see?’, she was over joyed when little squiggly Poochie came running over to her. He was a perfect addition to our family right from the start. Poochie is as energetic as ever and often gets mistaken for a puppy (other than his grey hair that is really coming in). He loves everyone and whenever we have guests he loves to sneak into their bed during the night. He’s perfect, cute and cuddly. He is starting to be a little grouchy in his old age and will often give a little growl if you try to wake him up from a nap. We ask ourselves everyday how did we get so lucky?”

Porkchop
DOB: Dec 2019
Breed: Pitbull mix
Rescued from: Fly With Me Animal Rescue“In 2020, when asked to foster a deaf pitbull named Porkchop from Alabama, we anticipated many challenges getting her to settle in. We didn't know much about her history, but by day two we knew she would be part of our family forever. Despite being deaf, Porkchop navigates life with boundless energy and an infectious smile she shows off to everyone. Porkchop isn't just a furry friend; she's a symbol of resilience and acceptance. She knows over 15 hand commands, loves the beach, sun, and bubbles, and will do anything for a piece of cheese. Summer's her favorite month, as she hates the rain and snow, and requests her own patio chair when out at the local beer garden.”

In Memory of Reed
DOB/Age: 6-1-2011
Breed: Mix, but mostly Rhodesian Ridgeback
Rescued from: Verona Street animal shelter“Reed was the best. He was very high energy and loved to play fetch with a ball. He would run and run and run until he collapsed and then run more if there was fetching a ball involved. But at the end of the day he was a huge cuddle bug. He was also a great dog with other dogs. We rescued other dogs while we had him and he was so patient with all of them while we helped train them. He was the best teacher. I miss him so much.”

Rocky and Rosie
DOB/Age: Rocky is 7 and Rosie is 6
Breed: These are vet guesses! Rocky-Pappillon/Spaniel mix. Rosie Jack Russel/Chihuahua
Rescued from: Rescue a discarded animal society“We adopted Rocky in 2017! We drove across the border to go pick him up in Bellingham. We had no idea he was going to be so young but as soon as we held him we knew he was coming home with us. He was dumped off at the rescues front door because his first owners were not allowed dogs in their rental. Their irresponsibility opened the door to Rocky coming home with us. It was meant to be. He’s the oldest and knows it too. He has been an old soul from little, prefers to cuddle and snooze with mom whenever he can. He’s stubborn and will go grab his lead when he is tired of me being slow to get everyone ready for a walk. He is the complete opposite of his sister Rosie.
A year later we got the call from the rescue asking us if we would be willing to take on another dog, they had seen an influx lately. We went to one of the adoption events, not being set but open to looking. Once there all we heard was this LOUD yapping and howling and the volunteers working hard to reassure everyone it’s just a new dog that’s anxious. My heart immediately went up to her cage and I was like she’s mine. Give me the loudest dog in the lot. I picked her up and she immediately nestled her head into my shoulder and just went silent. She melted and I started balling. The rescue had named her princess and the irony is she really is a little princess. A high energy, jumping off the walls, refuses to walk when it is cold princess. She had a rough start at life. They found her on the streets in CA. It was later learnt, after a few medical scares, That she must of had a previous litter. Absolutely heartbreaking. But it shows in how much she nanny and looks out for my kids.
Both dogs complement each other and they instantly bonded. I call them my ying and yang.”

Ruby
DOB/Age: July 2014(?)
Breed: Mixed breed (pitbull, Rhodesian ridgeback, sharpei, huskie)

Ryder
DOB/Age: 10 years old, Sept 2014
Breed: Mixed
Rescued from: Lend a Paw Animal Rescue“She was rescued from a reserve in Saskatchewan. I wanted a dog for years and finally the time was right. I went to the same rescue my brother got his dogs from and her name was Tug originally. I actually went for another dog originally....but when I saw her in the corner of the crate, I knew she was the one. She is super sensitive and extremely smart. She is my emotional support angel who has been through thick and thin with me. Ryder volunteered with Special Pups (to spend time with children who have cerebral palsy here in Calgary). Ryder knows how to comfort people and has been a wonderful teacher to my new pup that has joined us now (Maverick). She is wise and caring & will forever be my soul dog. I can't say enough about how special she is without tearing up. She has a super sense of when someone needs anything and she does everything a dog can do to comfort everyone she runs across. When her time comes, I think all of my friends will cry with me. She is so special, I can't even describe it. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to showcase our fur babies. I have a feeling I will need to order about 20 puzzles. lol. Have fun with this collaboration. Pups and Puzzles for the Win!”

Sally
DOB/Age: June 7, 2017
Breed: Husky/Shepherd mix
Rescued from: ARF“Sally was adopted from ARF's in Morley, AB. As a child she was an absolute terror (or so I'm told, surely not my precious baby). Today she is my little curmudgeon, queen of the household, ultimate napper, and lover and snuggler of her mom. She loves food....any food, protecting the yard from squirrels and magpies, going on adventures in the mountains, and playing with her sister Sami!”

Sami
DOB/Age: January 17, 2021
Breed: German shepherd/husky cross
Rescued from: AARCS“Sami came to us in October of 2022, she was rescued by AARCS after being severely mistreated as a puppy. However, you would never know because she is the sweetest most cuddly and loving dog you will meet. She is also very mischievous, incredibly agile, and too smart for her own good. She loves running, snuggles with her sister, curling up on her favorite chair, and playing with her best friend Millie!”

Seng
DOB/Age: November 24, 2020 (4 years old)
Breed: Flat-Coated Retriever mix
Rescued from: Etobicoke Humane Society“We went to meet Seng at the shelter after seeing some photos of him online, and he was so friendly and cuddly with us immediately, which was so different from our previous rescue (a husky mix that much preferred her own space) and he just melted our hearts. We were told that he had a family before but it didn’t work out, so then we adopted him at 2.5 years old. Now he’s 4 and still has non-stop puppy energy; but whenever he isn’t playing fetch, he wants to be sitting on your lap (all 60 lbs of him) or at least holding your hand with his paw at all times. He did eat my passport shortly after we first adopted him… but he’s since made up for it with lots of cuddles.”
- Alexa B., Toronto, ON, Canada -
Sky
DOB/Age: March 2020, 4 years old
Breed: American foxhound / pitbull / German Shepard / husky mix!
Rescued from: Best Friends Pet Adoption“Sky’s litter was rescued from a junkyard in rural coastal North Carolina by Best Friend Pet Adoption, an all volunteer foster network based out of Raleigh, NC. We adopted Sky during the pandemic, which means she didn’t meet too many people as puppy. She’s skeptical of new people at first, but as soon as she knows you she will be crying with excitement when you arrive. Her favorite things are sunbathing on the porch and sniffing on a walk (we like to call her a nose with legs 😂).”

Snoopy
DOB/Age: He’s approx 5

Stella
DOB/Age: June 5, 2017 (7 years old)
Breed: Lab / Husky / Shepherd X
Rescued from: Mae Bachur Animal Shelter (Humane Society Yukon)“We adopted Stella from the Humane Society when she was 9 weeks old. She was born in a small community in the Yukon. All 10 pups in her litter were put up for adoption and we were lucky enough to adopt her (our first choice) after our old pup had passed away. Stella is an old soul, sensitive and quiet. She is my adventure buddy...we hike, paddleboard, cross country ski....if I'm out and about, she's right there with me. She is squirrel obsessed and will never pass up a treat or a ball. She's honestly the sweetest, best girl and we are so lucky to have her in our lives.”

DOB/Age: Feb 2, 2018
Breed: Mixed: Swiss shepherd, spaniel, golden mix
Rescued from: Sumter SC SPCA“Rescued this baby after she had been returned to the SPCA by her first rescuer. She is the sweetest animal ever. Always smiling and the second she makes eye contact with you, her tail wags like crazy. My second submission.”

Stout
DOB/Age: May 25 ( that’s when we celebrate)
Breed: Mixed Australian cattle dog and Rottweiler
Rescued from: Maskwacis reservation in Alberta“Stout was found running wild on the reservation with 2 siblings, he was rescued at approximately 4-5 months old. Stout stayed with a foster family for the first month. He was very skittish and extremely afraid of water. A co-worker introduced the organization that had rescued the puppies to us and asked if anyone was able to adopt one of them.
With a lot of love and care he has really opened up but still stingy with kisses. He has a little sister, a huge back yard to chase squirrels,2 parents that adore him and grandparents that spoil him even more. Grandpa is referred to as the treat man and Stout adores him.He enjoys travel, long walks, hiking, car rides, toys ,treats and being at home with his family. Stout has lived with us in Red Deer Alberta, Huntsville Ontario and now just outside of London Ontario.”

Tamu
DOB/Age: Sept 25, 2023
Breed: Blue tick coonhound cross
Rescued from: AARCS“We adopted Tamu through AARCS, and it felt like fate from the start. We first saw her litter online and were immediately drawn to her adorable, wrinkly face. Unfortunately, we had to wait a couple of months due to Michael’s elbow surgery, but Tamu reappeared twice more, each time returned by previous adopters. We couldn’t believe this sweetheart hadn’t found her forever home, and we knew she was meant to be ours. Born with nine siblings in the Northwest Territories and brought to Alberta, Tamu has blossomed into a goofy, social butterfly who gets along with everyone she meets. She’s a true ball enthusiast, loves cuddling, and has a quirky habit of sitting in the funniest positions while her mom completes puzzles. We’d love to see her joyful personality captured in art!”

Theia
DOB/Age: November 2022
Breed: Embark says a mix of several breeds! Mostly Rottweiler x Pitt Bull
Rescued from: Pawsitive Match Rescue“I did not think I was ready to adopt another dog - I had 2 older dogs at home, but I kept thinking about a puppy. In an effort to sate my puppy fever (without getting a new dog), I volunteered to foster. Theia was my 2nd foster dog. Her and her litter mate had been found in rural Saskatchewan after they'd been kicked out of a car and abandoned. I had her about 1 month when she had a big gastric issue and had to go to the emergency vet and stayed with them for 2.5 days. I was so anxious for her the whole time she was at the vet, and spent the whole time stressing and feeling terrible. I decided then I wanted to keep her. To describe her, I would say Theia is a rowdy goofball! She is funny, bouncy, and playful! She does zoomies and leaps over furniture (and other dogs), LOVES to play, & is SO so cuddly! She always has something in her mouth - anything she can reach she will grab, and bring straight to me, proudly, to show me what she stole!”

Tofi
DOB/Age: October 2020
Breed: Mutt but Embark says: 31% Shepherd, 16% Husky and mostly super mutt!
Rescued from: Endless Pawsabilities“Our friend Jen was fostering our girl when she was 9 weeks old, rescued from northern Manitoba - she was found with her mom & two sisters under an abandoned house full of flees, worms and eating anything they could get their paws on. Jen instantly knew Tofi was meant for us & insisted we meet her, despite us not being approved by our landlords for a dog yet (they allowed us a dog if we adopted!!) We brought her home and now she LIVES for home comforts yet still loves being a feral child in the wild. She is down for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. She’s confident, sassy and willing to work for you. She prefers her Kong with peanut butter at 8pm sharp. She loves everyone she meets - so she comes to work with me sometimes to give some unofficial therapy to my respiratory therapy, nursing and physician coworkers. She is my shotgun rider & adventure buddy forever.”

Tuesday
DOB/Age: August 1, 2017. 7 years old
Breed: Whippet tarrier mix
Rescued from: SPCA PV, Mexico.“Our sweet Tuesday arrived from Mexico with her litter mates, all named after days of the week (her mama is Sunday.) she is the sweetest and most nervous girl. We have worked so hard to bring her out of her shell, she’s still a nervous leash reactive girl but I like to think it’s all meant to be, she showed us how to slow down and work diligently towards goals She now has a 2 year old human sister who she loves so much, I love seeing how they interact during pretend play and read books together. Tuesday has always spun in circles when she’s excited and loves to toss shells around on the beach. We love her so much and would love to see her on a puzzle beyond the photo ones we’ve DIYd. Thanks!”

In Memory of Walker
DOB/Age: July 28, 2007 (passed away June 7, 2021)
Breed: Mixed: German shepherd / Chihuahua mix
Rescued from: Found on the side of the road 7/28/07 and she had been badly abused.“Her eyes were the most expressive ever. She was truly my soulmate dog. She was with me when I bought my first house, when I beat cancer, when I lost my Mom, thru three moves and so many breakups. I rescued her from a roadside parking lot as a small puppy & she had been badly abused. We were inseparable until she passed away in 2021. And even though I rescued her, she is the one who saved my life. ♥️♥️”

Whiskey
DOB/Age: Dec. 6
Breed: Husky Shepherd x
Rescued from: Calgary Humane Society“Whiskey was rescued from the Calgary Humane Society when he was two years old. We were told the previous owners’ child developed a heart defect that caused him to be allergic to Whiskey and so they had to surrender him. Whiskey is a sweet, kind and calm soul. He likes to nuzzle in and wrap his tail around his nose like a fox! He filled a gap when our Lab of 12 years passed. We never thought we could love another dog quite the same way, but Whiskey’s gentle temperament makes everyone fall in love with him immediately!”

Wilfred (aka Willy)
DOB/Age: ~June 1, 2023
Breed: Pitsky Mix
Rescued from: Stray“In August 2023, I was on the Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation for work. I had just finished participating in a sweat lodge ceremony led by Elder Wilfred Stick when a puppy ran up to me and instantly fell asleep on my lap. I was told the puppy was a stray that had wandered onto Wilfred's land ~1 week prior. When I put him down to leave, the puppy ran after me and I knew he was mine. With permission, I took the puppy back to the camp we were staying at and, to the surprise of my partner, back home with me! We decided to name him Wilfred in honour of the elder whose land we found him on.
Wilfred truly was the missing piece to our little family (myself, my partner, and our Labradoodle). He is the sweetest and silliest pup who loves nothing more than to be cuddled up to another being - whether human or dog. He enjoys running really fast at the park, bugging his sister, changing the direction of his ears, treat puzzles, and good belly rubs.”

Willie
DOB/Age: February 28th, Nine
Breed: Sort of… dachshund x chihuahua
Rescued from: Mexcan pups!“This is Willie! He is a nine year old rescue from Mexico who is a mix of many breeds but most likely dachshund ( he is very long ) and chihuahua. He moved to Canada about seven years ago and has been with our family ever since! he has eight teeth left ( due to his breed and malnutrition from before he was rescued) so his tongue often lives outside his mouth! He loves lounging, he is just the sweetest and silliest guy around.”

Winnie
DOB/Age: May 16, 2022, 2.5 years old!
Breed: Her DNA says mostly husky, lab, and super mutt!
Rescued from: Endless Pawsabilities“Winnie was found in northern Manitoba with her mom and siblings. I’m also from Manitoba (hence her name), so I wanted to rescue a dog from my home province! I stumbled across her foster photo with the goofiest expression on her face, tongue hanging out to the side and so happy, and I knew she was my dog. I found out she’s a parvo survivor, which makes me cherish her even more. She’s the most happy go lucky girl who will dive head first into every mud puddle she sees, which is probably my favourite quirk about her! That, or how she tries to bury her food (with nothing around it), I find it so cute to watch!”

Winston
DOB/Age: June 2017/7 years old
Breed: Pretty sure jack russel mix
Rescued from: ARF - animal rescue foundation Calgary AB“Winston is a sweet boy who we have had for nearly 6 years. He is a quiet couch potato at home but turns into the noisy bossy fun police at the dog park. He likes to tell off the big dogs. He loves playing fetch but the ball does miss his mouth quite a bit and then he has to argue with it. We love him very very much.”
